What's GIF/Flash?
Gifs are displayable on anyone's computer; animation of movement is jittery, but fine for instance for animated bullet-points.
Flash is complicated to design, but great for fluid, subtle animations.

Large GIF banners (468 x 60 pixels):

Small banners (120 x 60 pixels):
No animations permitted.
Successful banners...
- are no larger than 50kb (for 468x60 pixel). Any larger, and users with slow connections may have left/scrolled down the page before your banner loads.
- summarise the service offered AND where it is offered.
- if animations are used, these are not so obtrusive as to become annoying if a viewer is looking at the page for more than a minute.
