| Synopsis: | PUCKHEADS is a feature documentary by filmmaker Simon Dekker. Traveling to Anaheim, San Jose, Denver, Edmonton, Ottawa, Newark, Buffalo and Raleigh during the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship, we observe, interact with and interview hundreds of fans, trying to find out what makes this unique community tick.
Taking the audience on a colorful and engaging journey through a vast range of human emotion, the film discovers a culture that is both amusing and tragic, frivolous and profound - a community that challenges the notion that its just a game.
This is not a film about hockey - the film focuses on the fans themselves - and discovers, in the words and actions of those fans, deeper truths about the human condition.
Why do fans paint their faces before a game? Why do they perform specific rites and rituals? What does it really mean to be a fan?
Woven among the antics of hockey fans runs an academic inquiry - featuring scholars from Yale, Villanova, Emory and Stanford Universities; Neil Earle, a high ranking pastor with the Worldwide Church of God; and Michael Novak, Director of Social and Political Studies at the American Enterprise Institute and author of the seminal book, The Joy of Sports.
Through the eclectic optic of sports fandom, A SEARCH FOR MEANING reveals the inner workings of the human heart, mind and spirit - helping us understand the deeper motivations that drive us all.
