Hi
I went to TM photography based in Ilford but moving to Islington some time soon. He was a really nice guy and spends a lot of time with you. He tends to take about ten pictures then you can look at them on a big screen and pick which ones you like and dont like and then he takes more. I spent about an hour and a half with him and got about 42 shots. He has a few different rates I went for the basic one which was only £70 then you can buy them all on CD rom (which is fab) for £20. He can usually do quite short notice but obviously you will need to speak to him. Its really easy to get to his place aswel even though its not central. I thouroughly recommedn him, if you go on to my profile its the black and white photos which were his. Not sure of his number off the top of my head but if you just search for TM photography on line he has a web site. Good luck
Emma

A friend of mine is just starting out as a photographer and very talented and *very good value*- only 75 quid all in I believe- but check out her website www.karlagowlett.co.uk and see what you think. Her studio is at the Coliseum on St Martins Lane so convenient too.

Hi Nina,

I use John Clark all the time now. Just had new headshots done with him and he gets your contacts up online the same day as your appointment. Again, he's digital, so you can see pictures when you are there. He's a great photographer. He may be difficult to get a quick appointment with, but it's worth a go. I think his details are on here. If not, www.johnclarkphotography.com

Take care
Shannon

Hi all,

Depends on how much you want to spend really,

Claire Newman Williams did mine, she was great

Otherwise I'd say Sophie Baker, Peter Simkin or Esther Burnett for really amazing photographs. I've had friends who have used all three and were really pleased with the results.

Hi Nina,
You might want to try both these guys for quotes if you are shopping around and struggling with getting a quick appointment. Ric Bacon ( in Contacts 2006 page 18).Ric did my last shots and is very easy going and all his work is using natural light.Based in North London close to Alexander Palace.Alternatively David Price photography (in Contacts 2006 page 81).I trained wth David at Bristol and know he had recently completed a photography degree. He is based in South London last time we spoke and is fast building a good reputation.
In both cases it might be worth mentioning my name to get a discount. No promises but nothing ventured nothing gained.
Best of luck.

It very much depends on your budget but I have found you have to spend at least £200-£300 for decent headshots. Unless you are very lucky which some people I know are. The best photographer I have worked with in terms of sound basic headshots is Claire Grogan. She puts you very much at your ease and produces reliable results. I also like the work of Magnus Hastings and when I have enough money to spare will look into having some shots with him. He stays within the requirements of the headshot but has a bolder, powerful edge to his shots.

A cheap way to get good headshots is to enquire at local art colleges that do photography courses and look for a student doing portraits. My worst experience of photographs are those taken by agencies. Which in my experience often look rather shoddy. Usually you can tell how good the photos are going to turn out by the way in which the photographer engages with you. The best photographers with ask you about yourself and how you want to be represented and really look at your features before they launch into a shoot. A good sign of a bad photographer is one that orders you around and doesnt engage with you in a comfortable fashion. If you are not made to feel comfortable then it will show. I have learn all this through a lot of trial and error.
