“I thoroughly enjoy working with people and have experience of working within teams at various levels both in the public and private sector. I have a professional, customer focused attitude with a patient approach. I am passionate about the Media Industry, I feel excited and driven for this next stage in my career and feel it will provide the challenge I am looking for. I am keen to learn, enthusiastic and ready to work hard in order to succeed.”
Skills and Experience
Communication
I have worked in the Legal Profession for a number of years providing advice to clients, of all ages and abilities regarding complex family law matters. I am professional, tactful and friendly to deal with. As a paralegal my ability to network with internal and external organisations is crucial to enable me to meet my high financial targets. Furthermore I volunteer regularly for the Salvation Army Homeless Hostel and Youth Club. In these roles I am often in the position of Team Leader, guiding and encouraging groups in activities such as drama or leading discussions regarding current affairs.
Team Working
I have worked in various teams throughout my working life and also in my personal time as a volunteer. I am motivated, hardworking and am a reliable member of the team.   I am a positive person who enjoys undertaking challenges. I do not get flustered by unforeseen complications, I am flexible and priorities work in order to ensure the team meets its objectives.
Organisation
Working within a legal environment it is key to ensure that information is organised effectively. Furthermore I am required to work to tight deadlines and on various projects simultaneously. In my roles I have experience of booking travel, organising accommodation, managing the diaries of the department, organising resources, photocopying documents and running errands. I am an efficient person, my experience has developed my ability to problem solve and apply common sense to situations. I can be trusted to work hard with no supervision.
IT Skills
Throughout my work as a legal secretary and paralegal I have worked extensively with the Microsoft packages namely Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. My working knowledge of these programs is therefore extensive and I have an average typing speed of 91 words per minute.   Furthermore I have worked with a number of case management programs and am quick to learn new software.
Project Management
In July 2008 I was given the opportunity to travel to Malawi to visit various projects ran by the Salvation Army and provide reports to various UK and International Donors.   In order to fund the work I took the initiative to organise a series of fundraising events, booking venues, researching what events were likely to be most successful, applying to local trusts for funds, recruiting volunteer staff and marketing the events in the local press and on my own website. I am organised, focused and able to overcome challenges. Furthermore this opportunity allowed me to demonstrate my ability to present information and motivate others to contribute to the project. The project was successful and raised over £2,500.00 in under 6 weeks.
Creativity
I volunteer frequently with the Salvation Army youth sections aimed at young people aged between 13 and 25 years of age. A key part of this role is to use various methods such as craft, drama, music and discussion groups to present a number of relevant issues. It is imperative to present this information in a new and exciting, imaginative way to encapsulate the interest of this audience and to develop and encourage further thinking. Furthermore it is key to expand the perspective of young people to that outside their current situation and to motivate them to make a positive difference to the world around them.
Research
Throughout my work I am expected to constantly research the law in order to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of local and national applications of law. I am able to use a variety of sources and this enabled me to stay a step ahead of the competition. Furthermore in August 2008 I prepared a number of reports whilst in Malawi about projects such as Women’s Micro Credit and the Children’s Anti-Trafficking Program. This involved researching the backgrounds of these projects, analysing how efficiently resources were being used and putting together a plan of action for the future. I was required to interview local people and gather relevant figures from vast information stores. Upon returning to the UK I presented my work to the International Headquarters of the Salvation Army and as a direct result significant further funding was granted to these projects.
