News presenter…

on regional opt bulletins: GMTV, ITN lunch, afternoon, ITN late, weekends (including double header on Saturday news/sport). These frequently include live 2-ways on major incidents (e.g. Boscastle flooding). politics (e.g. hunting via Westminster) and culture (e.g. Glastonbury Festival). Experienced in presenting in four-camera main studio, and bulletin studio (including self-op autocue).

Writing and sub-editing…

copy on incidents from initial calls/wires etc. and follow up investigations, through to final script. “Baby sitting” packages – compiling reports from track and rushes, checking timings, adding Capgens etc.

Other tasks undertaken include:

• News reading on Sunday Edition, the live current affairs programme including interviews and political comment;

• Proactively proposing, preparing and presenting feature packages on local interest themes and events;`

• Continuity announcing across the full range of ITV programmes, writing scripts and handling transmission breakdowns efficiently.

Non-ITV freelance work:

Regular media training exercises with the Royal Navy, RAF and Royal Marines at: Joint Service College Shrivenham, Gosport, Longmoor and Devonport. Teaching interview techniques for live TV studio and satellite links as well as scripting and filming news packages for training purposes. Also provide services as a TV reporter during war gaming exercises.

Voice-over artist for TV commercials, training CDROMS and ITV promotional trailers. Radio journalist Pirate FM, Cornwall’s leading private radio station.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Substantial one to one in-house mentoring over several months with senior producer Guy Pannell (former TSW news-editor and currently Senior Lecturer in journalism at Cornwall Universities Combined). Topics included: sub-editing skills, writing copy in ITV style, use of images/sound, editing techniques, WinCue software, practical application of media-law including privilege, libel, copyright etc.

Updating of IT skills on standard office packages, proficiency with Quantel digital server based technology and STRIX library software.
