Introduction:

A recent graduate (April ’09) of the One Year Practical Filmmaking course at the Metropolitan Film School (based at Ealing Studios), I am looking to find work in the film and media industry to build on my skills and experience, and to advance my career in the filmmaking sphere.

Filmmaking Experience:

Numerous roles on various short films and other collaborative projects, covering a wide range of skills, developing my knowledge and experience:

  • Devil’s Redemption – I produced, wrote, directed and edited this short film (my Met. Film School graduation project,) which deals with sensitive material involving themes of child abuse.  I gained experience working with a child actor and avoiding melodrama whilst maintaining dramatic integrity.  Coming soon to festivals.
  • Worship 4 Life: D.I.P. I was a camera and boom operator working with a Christian band.
  • The Interview – I was a production assistant on this hard hitting student short film.
  • Mind – I was a production assistant on this student short about mental health issues.
  • Consequences – I was an assistant director and script advisor on this Met. Film School graduation film, on its way to the festival circuit.
  • Through the Keyhole – I was director of photography and editor on this project commissioned by Grove Chapel, for the Christian charity Tearfund.
  • Charmed – I was a script advisor and casting assistant on this dramatic Met. Film short involving a child performer.
  • Maya’s Revenge – I was a script advisor on this Met. Film graduation short action thriller.
  • Poppy – I was a script advisor on this Met. Film School graduation project, a period drama.
  • Breaks – I produced, wrote, directed and edited this Met. short with a strong musical pulse.
  • Cracked – I was a runner and continuity monitor on this Met. Film School short film, featuring elaborate dance sequences.
  • Discordance – I was a production assistant on this successful Met. Film School short film, which has played at various international festivals.
  • Victims – I was boom operator on this Met. Film student short thriller.
  • One Size Fits All – I was a script advisor on this Met. Film School student project, which dealt with topics such as religious, sexual and racial tolerance.
  • The Saxophonist – I was a script advisor on this musical Met. Film student project.
  • Brother – I was a production assistant on this topical short film with a terrorism theme.
  • ARUP Profile – I was director of photography and editor on this corporate film for the international architecture and engineering firm Ove Arup.
  • Unidentified Woman – I co-produced and edited this Super-16mm London Film Academy short film.
  • El Día del Diablo – I was camera operator on this Super-16mm student short.
  • Anything – I was focus puller on this Super-16mm London Film Academy short.
  • Clocking Off – I was a spark and cable basher on this Super-16mm student short.
  • Easter ’07 – I wrote and directed this Easter play featuring a multi-cultural cast at a Church in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Filmmaking skills:

  • Directing – This role is my main interest and in the future I intend to focus on a career as a director.  In the past I have learnt invaluable lessons whilst overcoming issues such as clashing personalities on set, directing child actors in difficult scenes and improvising when last minute location limitations force shot lists to be abandoned.
  • Screenwriting – So far I have filmed two of my short screenplays, including one (Devil’s Redemption) on which a collaborator of the late Stanley Kubrick was an advisor.  I have several writing projects in the pipeline, including short and feature length scripts.
  • Editing – I am Apple Certified (Level 1) on Final Cut Pro 6, and have countless hours of editing experience on short films and other projects.
  • Camera – I have experience with the Sony Z1, Movie Tube lens adaptor, Super-16mm Arriflex, camera assisting, and working with other HDV and miniDV cameras.
  • Lighting – Three point lighting and on set experience as a gaffer and spark.
  • Sound – Boom operating, some sound mixing and sound editing.
  • Other – Continuity, production assistant, runner, some acting and experience as an extra, website building (in 2005 I created a website for an upcoming band in South Africa.)
