I’m a Broadcast Consultant and Trainer with 15 years broadcast experience, the last eleven involving desktop editing and shared storage solutions. Specialising in Training, Dry Run and On Air Support I’ve been freelancing for three years now providing bespoke workflow, training and support packages for a variety of broadcast companies both as an associate consultant for Avid and directly for the BBC. In the last three years I have had extensive training and experience in system administration, database design and media management as well as training users in editing with both SD and HD workflows. My journalistic background gives me a unique insight into both understanding and training first time desktop users and in designing and detailing user guides and workflow definition documents. My interpersonal skills, reliability, versatility and conscientious approach have proved an invaluable addition to all the projects I have been involved with.

Previous Experience: STV (Scottish Television) – 1995-2006
I initially joined Scotland Today, STV’s regional news output, in March 1995 as a journalist and reporter. In 1998 the ground breaking introduction of the NewStar and EditStar desktop editing systems allowed me to become the primary superuser and workflow champion for the whole station. I then spearheaded the team of superusers who took us to an Avid Workgroups 4 solution in 1995 – the system and workflows still being used today. By the time I left STV I was combining the journalistic roles of acting NewsGathering Editor and Producer of Scotland Today with my ongoing duties of Superuser and trainer on the newsroom systems – from desktop to studio.
