Education
- I graduated with a BA from the Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA on June 12th, 2009. I spent much of my time at Evergreen taking various history, political, economic, and linguistic classes, but the past year I have spent studying documentary film-production and the history of avant-garde cinema in a program called ‘Mediaworks in Context: Sustainability and Justice’. In that class I achieved the following proficiencies in:
· Writing, directing and producing a number of short-films for class.
· Operating manually loaded film-cameras such as the Bolex, CP-16, and Super-8, and digital film-cameras such as palmcorders and the Sony and Panasonic 3-Chips. (I now own a Panasonic AG DVX 100B.)
· The set-up and use of various light fixtures and lighting arrangements, from the 3-point to the experimental.
· The use of the non-linear editing program Final Cut Pro. (I also am proficient in linear editing.)
· Sound production, using Digital Performer and Peak Pro 6, including the use of surround sound (5.1). I am also proficient in the use of boom-mics and lavalieres, and well versed in the differences and varieties of mics.
· Grant writing: during my final quarter I had to submit a grant proposal to my faculty, which included a general summary of the project, a proposed production schedule and budget, and an annotated bibliography. On top of this, my project summary, which dealt with the Gateways for Incarcerated Youth Program (see below for information), had to be approved by the Washington State Department of Corrections because of my intention to interview incarcerated youth in the juvenile detention facility. They were both approved.
· Finally, I am proficient in video/audio compression.
- During the summer of 2007 I completed two courses at UC Berkeley: the first was called ‘Contemporary Issues in Education’, while the second called ‘Latin American Film’. I received a 4.0 for my work.
- I graduated from Garfield High School, Seattle, Washington, June 2003
- I participated in an immersion Spanish study – July 2005 in Guatemala.
Other Activities
- Gateways For Incarcerated Youth: Gateways empowers incarcerated youth to create a positive future for themselves through youth driven cultural awareness and educational programming. During the winter and spring of 2006 and the spring of 2007 I participated in this program. Each week I was part of a group that traveled to a juvenile facility and worked with the inmates. This past spring I traveled to one of the incarceration facilities to make a documentary about the program. The documentary is nearly done and will be placed online after completion; its working title is ‘Our Solution’.
- I also enjoy to read, play soccer, make music, watch movies, and travel.
