DESIRE:
The roots of my creativity stem from many different places. I am a huge appreciator of art (especially modernism), I have a huge appreciation for films of all genres and periods, but my main focus and passion tends to be horror and sci-fi films. My main focus when I watch a movie is to pay attention and analyze the special effects and make up as well as the cinematography and the set design. I am a movie traditionalist. I am a huge fan of live/practical special effects (i.e. make up, silicone, latex, stop motion animation, video doubling, miniatures, elaborate sets, mechanical props, etc.) I believe that when you watch a movie, it should act like a very elaborate play. I am usually critical about movies that use CG as their main medium for the visual effects (i.e. creatures or scenes that are entirely computer generated.) I believe that it takes away the integrity of the film and makes it look like a video game rather than a film. The only time I believe it is necessary to use CG is to accentuate a scene if the scene calls for something that virtually can’t be done by live/practical effects. I’ve been involved in the entertainment industry since birth. Most of my family members are involved in the LA entertainment industry in one aspect or another. Being a product of the 80’s, sci-fi/horror movies were the first films I was exposed to and it was love at first sight. Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to be a part of the entertainment industry with an emphasis on special effects. After years of trying to put a technical name to my passion, I found that I want to aspire to be a live special effects artist. I want to be involved with all aspects of live special effects and be responsible, much like the Director of Photography or Director, for contributing to the intended look or illusion of the final product while working both in an effects house as well as on location.
