SKILLS

I have been a practicing filmmaker for almost five years now. In that time I have worked on numerous short films, either on my own or as part of a crew. As a result I feel very at home on film sets and in post-production suites. I feel I have strong skills as a filmmaker both creatively and technically. I have a high level of craft in everything I do and consider myself a perfectionist. I am positive, hard working and flexible.

My experience of making films has provided me with good people skills and made me understand the importance of communication when working with others, particularly as part of a team. It has also provided me with valuable organisational abilities and a wide skill-set. I have proved I can work well under pressure and to deadlines.

I am comfortable using both Mac and PC computers but am particularly experienced using Mac. I am very experienced at using the editing software Final Cut Pro, as well as its sister programmes Soundtrack Pro, DVD Studio Pro and Compressor. I also have a basic understanding of Adobe Photoshop and am currently learning Logic Pro.

I have experience in using a wide variety of video cameras, including the Panasonic DVX100, Canon XL-H1 and Sony HVR-Z1. I also have experience using Super 8 cameras as well as a variety of stills cameras. I also have a lot of experience using sound recording equipment, including Sennheiser and Rhode microphones, and Marantz and Edirol digital recorders.

INTERESTS

Film and filmmaking are my biggest passions. I have had a love of film since I was a child but I only started to consider it as a career path in my late teens. Since then it has been the main focus of my work, which I consider a powerful means of communicating ideas and expressing emotions. I am particularly interested in how landscapes and spaces are used in film and how they relate to the individual. Themes of the outsider and issues surrounding communication are other areas of interest.

Music and art are another two passions of mine. I studied art for many years, with a style of my own leaning towards graphics and illustration, and was particularly keen on the work of 20th Century artists. In recent years I have developed an understanding and appreciation for video art and installation work. Music is something I find very emotive and in that respect is a very powerful tool as a filmmaker. I also believe having a sense of natural rhythm is vital when editing. I am a self taught guitarist and drummer.

I enjoy travelling and socialising and have been to numerous places across the UK and Europe, and I look forward to travelling further afield in the future. I particularly enjoy travelling for my work and I have already been to a number of places across the country on film shoots and to document events. I have made many new friends through my work.
