Recording software
Hi VOs. I am curious to know what recording software you are using on a MacBook Pro? What is the most popular?
Depends on your budget and your experience level. I use REAPER myself, but I am a Windows user. Reaper has a very good support group for MAC on it's website and Discord server. Pro Tools is the industry standard, but it's many bells and whistles might be too much for someone just starting out. I understand many of my colleagues have moved from the prescription service of Audition to the free Audacity.
Any DAW that will allow you to easily change the rendered audio will work (WAV, MP3, khz, bit rate, etc).In the end, it's not really what's most popular but what you are famliar with. What works best in your workflow. I like Reaper because it's non-destructive and you can customize it's theme and colours, and it's plugins are easy to use.
Hi Rob - I use Adobe Audition which offers everything I need to record and render files. Subscription, so it costs, but platform is stable and support is good. Have used Audacity, but find the interface a bit clunky.
Thanks guys. I appreciate you replying.
If you're on a mac you have garageband already on there for free. You have to be careful to make sure you turn off all the stuff it does automatically but it'll do the job. Personally, I use logic, which is garageband's big brother, and I'm pretty happy with that.
I feel like if I were to move to something else it'd be something like Hindenburg for its VO specific options like keeping track of voices, etc.
I use Audacity as its So easy to navigate and not over complicated. Its also free to use which is great....
Another Audacity user here. Free and easy.... it's the way to go :)
I use Audacity but I loved Audition at Uni and would prefer that if I could get the sub because the wizardy you can easily and intuitively affect on the envelopes is amazing. I'll be looking into Reaper though as I'd not heard of that as a platform and I didn't realise Garage Band was an option on MAC. Great stuff chaps.
