About me
Christopher is an actor, writer, director, and educator, trained at The Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College Dublin; and Ecole Internationale de Theatre Jacques Lecoq, Paris. Since moving to Canberra in 2016, he has become one of the city’s most prolific and celebrated theatre practitioners, winning the Helen Tsongas award for Excellence in Acting and the Fringe World festival Overall Award for Dance & Physical Theatre in 2019. He recently appeared in Clockfire Theatre Co.’s darkly funny fable Plenty of Fish in the Sea at PACT, winning the Best in Theatre, Best in Physical Theatre, and Festival Director’s Awards for Sydney Fringe 2023.Christopher’s background combines that of a classically-trained actor, at ease with demanding texts, and that of a creative collaborator – deviser, writer, director and theatremaker – with the skills and experience to contribute to projects at any stage of development. He is specialised in movement across varied forms of physical theatre, from clown to mime to Butoh.
As artistic director of Bare Witness Theatre Co., he has produced eleven shows to date, in Ireland, the U.K., and Australia, winning a reputation for raw, pulsating theatre that ignites the imagination. Recent work has included a searing solo adaptation of The Stranger by Albert Camus (2021); a sharp-shooting showdown about the dark arts of marketing, Smokescreen (2022); and the cyberpunk surveillance epic I Have No Enemies (2023).
Since 2021, he has been the lead artist for Canberra Youth Theatre’s training and professional development program for emerging artists aged 18¬—25 , Emerge Company, directing the devised works Carpe DM (2021), 503: Service Unavailable (2022), and Sympathetic Resonance (2023).
