About me
I have always loved sewing, and after my fashion degree I did a costume course as making fabulous costumes for theatre seemed like the job for me. I did some City and Guilds qualifications in garment construction along side my degree which taught me about the way modern clothes are made, while the costume course taught me how period clothes were constructed and also how differently you need make things to withstand the rigours of a theatrical production. I took on various temporary jobs until I gained the post of Ladies Cutter at Opera North. I loved it there, but left to have children and then we relocated from Yorkshire to Warwickshire. I have done some freelance work whilst being a stay-at-home-Mum, but found the lead up times difficult to manage with two children. I set up a ladies fashion business in the hope that it would offer more flexibility, but it actually didn't work out at all. I have really struggled to sell and have greatly missed working as part of a team. However, both boys are now in school and I have much more time to work. I took on two projects which lasted from June to October, and really enjoyed both. I would love to work in-house if it is near enough to me, otherwise I can travel for meetings, fittings, rehearsals and do all the work at home, where I have a separate space. I have mostly done ladies wear, but lately some some men's too. At home I have two ladies stands, one male, an industrial button holer, domestic normal machine and a domestic overlocker.Additional skills:
I am really a cutter and maker, but if the project is small enough (cast of 1 -3 persons) I am happy to design too. I am also interested in private clients. Other skills include knitting and crochet.
