About me
I am an extremely creative individual with a strong passion for make-up in Film, TV and Theatre. I am graduating from the University of Exeter in BA Drama, so my passion for the drama world means I have a rich knowledge about characterisations and continuity, since I have been acting since I was 5 in a wide genre of theatre and been doing make-up since I was 14, even taking on the role of make-up manager at Northcott Theatre in Exeter which seats 464 people for EUTCO's Angels in America which involved lots of different types of make-up from facial hair, old age, lesions, sfx, dirt and stage make-up. Having had extensive experience working with new people in drama productions, acting and being backstage, I am able to have the confidence to work with all kinds of people. Performing in front of an audience means that I have to be confident and this skill also transcends into my work and everyday life. Therefore, I am not afraid to talk to strangers and large crowds of people. As make-up manager for Exeter University Theatre Company’s Angels in America, I had to hand draw a full set of wings on an actors back during the performance whilst changing another actor’s character make-up to an entirely different character in 15 minutes. It was a cast of 16 people and there was myself and one assistant backstage to help me. I have performed at Edinburgh Fringe when we had only staged the performance a week beforehand, so I am used to working in high pressure professional environments.
I was Publicity Officer for Drama Society at University of Exeter removed , so my communication between all of the committee and the members via social media and in person was vital in making sure everything ran smoothly. I had to communicate with the general public to promote the three Edinburgh Fringe shows I have done by word of mouth, therefore I have a vast array of communication skills.
Theatre productions require adaptation since rehearsals and performance spaces are never the same, so without adapting to the environment, a good performance cannot be made. In my recent performance The Crooked Man with See No Evil Theatre Company, I had to quickly think of an alternative make-up since the actor was not adhering well with the original make-up, so a new design was created off the top of my head. My creativity in drama and makeup allows me to adapt to unpredictable situations without feeling stressed.
As the videographer for Exeter University Theatre Company’s Earthquakes in London, I was required to listen to the artistic intentions of the directors and to make sure that their vision was seen on the screen. It is important to understand other people’s opinion and views since a solid relationship can be established, therefore it creates a better working environment. In plays, I have to listen to the directors and take on board any criticism, knowing that it is not a personal comment on myself.
