About me
I am about to graduate from Sheffield Hallam University with a predicted 2:1 to 1st grade in Film and Media Production. It is here that I have spent most of my training as a producer, and have discovered that I would like to pursue my on-set producing skills in a new and challenging environment. In employment, I have worked in hospitality and also for the Essex Library Service. I have extremely good experience in customer service and also systems and administration. At my most recent employer, I have had the opportunity to manage events, including Christmas parties and Wedding receptions. In addition I have now chaired the organisation of two screenings of our final year films at the Workstation Sheffield and the Showrrom Cinema Sheffield. It was through this that I learned skills and experience in managing budgets, technical staff and equipment, making sure speakers etc. are in attendance and catered for, and many other transferrable skills. It is this love of these roles that has led me to want to pursue a career post-university as a production assistant, and hopefully one day, a producer in my own right.
At University my exceptional training in producing films also makes me ideal for this role. I have planned call sheets and arrival of equipment and actors on film sets, I deal with budget sheets regularly, risk assessments, careful crew and casting selection, contracts and legal paperwork.
In addition I took up an extremely challenging job self producing, directing, and shooting three short films for the charity Dot Com Children's Foundation. I sought the work myself, and though difficult, and assisted by my executive producer, I made these films almost entirely alone from planning to edit. Both have been used for a project by the European Commission called Triple V (Values Versus Violence), to tackle vulnerable children at secondary school age to prevent crime in later life. This is one of my proudest filmmaking achievements to date, aside from directing my graduation short film, which will screen on June 5th at the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield.
In any entry level job, I think it is important to begin with much to learn, and I would relish a challenge to reinvent my skills in a new and exciting environment.

Thank you for your consideration,
Katie Watts
