A dogs Live

2009, 50 minutes

Two Dutch mushers, Roderick and Sandra, dream to become World Champion dog sledge racers in Austria in 2009.

Dog sledge racing is not an obvious sport in The Netherlands, due to the lack of mountains and snow. Despite these natural circumstances, Roderick and Sandra have the professional desire to realize their ambition. Their international competitors train all year round. Our team has less then five months to be in perfect shape. At the crack of dawn, Roderick and Sandra go out into the woods to train their dogs and get into shape. Facing up to the rain and mud of a typical Dutch autumn. All the essentials such as food, weight, sledge, suits, and other materials are carefully adjusted into perfection. Next to their day job, every second is spent on the dogs. They built a wooden chalet in their back garden specifically for the dogs. In the evenings, Roderick and Sandra join them there to retreat cosily in front of a roaring fire and watch TV. Roderick and Sandra have 20 dogs, each has a personal story and own distinctive character. For an outsider they seem the same, but soon the personalities are discovered. We follow the mushers during their extensive and emotional preparations for the World Cup 2009. ‘A Dog’s Life’ is about passion, experiencing teamwork and friendship, but above all, realising a dream.
