Shobhna's Seven Nights

2014, 110 minutes

A unusual love story between a middle aged socialite and a young gigolo

Synopsis Our story is being told with Shobhna and Saahil at the centre of the narrative. Yet it is not only their perception of reality that guides this film. It is the collective insights of those five figures who are central to the narrative. Shobhna Gujral in her early 40s, is a successful writer. She lives all alone in her apartment in a swank high-rise in South Mumbai. She is sick to her gills writing trite stuff and making inane conversations with vacuous people. She smokes, drinks and perpetually trips on hash brownies. Malishka, her housekeeper hovers around her like a protective spectral figure. She is the silent witness of Shobhna’s descent into hell despite her ‘so called’ social success and celebrity hood. Amar Gujral, her estranged husband, is a womaniser. The death of their only child has devastated him. Harry Davidar, her publisher is in love with Shobhna. Though he maintains the demeanour of a calculative, publishing baron but is essentially a man with a great sense of valour, seeped in notions of ‘Knightly Love’. Saahil aka Manoj like little Alice in Wonderland stumbling through the rabbit hole into this quaint world of South Mumbai glitterati. His problems are more real and immediate. His native goodness is instilled in him by his small town upbringing. That makes him the anchor of Shobhna’s troubled ship. Despite their age barrier and intellectual differences, he is the one who understands the real Shobhna. All these characters journey from darkness to light. Cast Raveena Tandon as Shobhna Amit Purohit as Saahil/Manoj Anupam Kher as Harry Davidar Lillete Dubey as Malishka Rohit Roy as Amar Gujral Music Gourav Dasgupta
