Boring threads.

Seeing as how it's quiet, I think I will add another boring thread to darken the day, so to speak.
I have a cat !! .. not you Soggy Mog, one that my wife took pity on whilst in Spain ... so we brought it back. It is a Siamese, complete with blue eyes, and that unbelievably arrogant attitude.
The blue eyes have faded with age, but the arrogance seems to have increased.
We fixed him up with a litter tray, to find that he had been curiously watching me all the time: with a look on his face that said 'What's wrong with the carpet' !!!!.
He actually runs our household. He goes to the cupboard where his food is kept, and actually opens the damn door. My wife bought him some sliced roast beef, and now he's trying to open the frig door for crying out loud !!! He'll be wanting the car next !!!.
Animals are clever. They have their own personality, their own character. I had a dutch rabbit which we adopted from blue cross. You start to understand each other. I loved her soooooo much.
But if she's beginning to control you - not so good (although it's kinda cute). Try some basic parenting skills, which may be effective.
1. Both you and your wife need to be on the same page regarding rules & regualations.
2. When you say NO it means no. Don't change your mind, whatever the reaction.
3. If they misbehave, withdraw a priviledge.

Sorry - its a 'he'.
Oh & praise him when he does something good.

Matt ... he's been neutered ( but got a feeling, it's me) ... it's his bloody attitude !!! superior sod that he is. I thought I was the actor ... and he's acting me off the Set everytime !!!!.
On second thoughts, you're right Matt. Yes, let's castrate him!
The thing is, Allan, that although a dog has a master, a cat has a staff. It's the way things are. Hence the appalling mistake that the government made in banning hunting with dogs when they should have insisted on hunting with cats. The sight of an MFH trying to round up a pack of cats would give us all a good chortle.
Not allowed a cat. So I got a macbook pro instead. Beautiful and very well behaved!
I have two cats - gorgeous big ginger tom who looks soooo butch and is a complete wimp, and a beautiful tabby she cat who is so self sufficient and self contained. I think you will find that your cat recognises you as dominant male and is trying to usurp you - it's in their nature. Also - urine is scent marking so maybe he is not completely confident that this is his home - you can buy a spray feromone from the vet which is undetectable to humans but gives cats a feeling of well being and security. )You just spray all round the skirtings etc. - not the cat) Good luck Christine
My Siamese, Jessica, always fascinates me with her 6th sense.
She runs to the kitchen when I touch the tin of tuna, but doesn't do so when I touch the baked beans tin. (This happens before I open the tin)
But most importantly, she sits by the door 10mins before my partner comes home, even if the time is irregular.
She must have the 6th sense.
Oriental breeds are much more likely to be dominant in the home - they also have an amazing ability to open all sorts of doors (a trick that I have noticed most other breeds are unable to do.) I grew up with Siamese cats and then for nearly 20 years had Burmese, all of which in their own way rule the roast so to speak. They are incredibly intelligent and if you let them they will take the piddle! :O) I actually found them very easy to train and to be the most sensitive and wonderful companions - however my grandparents (who got the brother Siamese from us when I was a child) completely let their cat run wild - fed him all sorts of posh food and spoilt him rotten - and he was a little terror!
I agree with Fuzz - Discipline!!! Though it might be a bit late for that now but you can have a go! :O) Good luck!

Christine ... tried the scent years ago.
Amber ..... they are indeed, extremely intelligent. As for training, how do you stop a cat from head-butting the bedroom door at 7 in the morning ??.
Iknow, I know ... get up at 6 o'clock.
For all my moaning ... wouldn't be without my Sam !!.

Christine ... there's a comment I could make .. but refuse to do so .....
Ahh yes - our cat if allowed into the house at night would wake us up with meowing at night, let alone waiting until 7am...
I am afraid our cat had his own room - the utility room (where the washer/dryer) with the boiler and a cat flap. We had to put a lock on the door because of his uncanny way of opening doors and waking us up! And if any of you have had Oriental cats, you will know they are VERY vocal!
Splat...my first word was meow and not just any meow, but one perfectly copied from my very vocal siamese cat! haha
