'Washed Up' Mockumentary - its funny, possibly!

Kirk Moore
Actor

Since several hundred people have sat through the messy tedium that currently comprises my showreel(s), I thought I might share with everyone the latest project to be slotted into my next edit.

Hey, it might make you smile. Or at least rejoice in the fact that the porno moustache I wear in it may spell the end of my career... Also, watch as I get upstaged by a cute dog in one scene... oh, and did I mention the tights I wear during the 'promo' scene?

'Washed Up' is the story of Carl Faulkner (MEEEEE!), the former world champion of car washing. After suffering RSI, the film follows him on the road to recovery.

Large chunks of the film were ad-libbed on the day of filming... so much so, that a lot of the original script has been cut from the final edit! Due to the brief the film-makers had, they couldn't make it any longer, but a 'Director's Cut' may surface one day....

I'm thinking a clip from the 'promo' scene would go well on my reel... but other opinions, please!

Please let me know if there are any issues with playback...

The music is provided by those masters of hair rock, Europe... which means if you are watching in Germany, you aren't actually watching at all, because its been blocked there!

Cheers!

I liked it ....apart from the & cheesy transitions and words appearing on screen. For me....that didn't add to the overall video.

I liked the way it was shot and cut....ie: a few dodgy camera glances from crew etc were subtle and well timed, and greatly added to the Mocumentary style.

It's a nice idea KARL WASH!.....my only issue is that it lags a tiny bit...and was perhaps not as funny as it could have been. ie: I'd like to have seen a few more MOCK asides and moments that would not make the final edit of a proper documentary...but DO make the edit of a mockumentary...if that makes sense. It's a very hard comedy format to pull off though…..looks easy when you see Spinal Tap….The Office etc….but it's really hard to make it work. Playing it dead straight is the key I guess...comedy being a very serious business and all that! You've got some very nice moments in this edit.

As for using any of it within a showreel...tread carefully, and make sure the viewer can see it's clearly a mocumentary scene - and not let it get misconstrued as a bit of home camera work, within some well edited film scenes!

Good job.

Cheers, Mark!

The promo vid bit supposed to look a bit cheesy - '80s Wrestler Promo' vid was the idea, but I see what you mean about it being misconstrued as a bit of 'shot at home' footage, because that was what it was supposed to look like!

I am having issues picking what bits (if any) I should use. The 'deleted' scenes are either additional bits for the promo vid section or long takes of me talking to camera about shammis and sponges...

Curses! This could be another one of those films where I can only use a two second shot in my opening montage!

just find a really good "best bit" which inc's a Mocumentary style "obvious what this is a about" scene!

As for which bits.......get someonelse to decide for you!

It's really hard picking the best bits of ones own work...I see this from actors all the time when I am editing their showreels. An outsider with a good eye and view, is usually the best or most objective I think.
