About me
From a very young age, I have always found Drama to be a fun and enjoyable pursuit. I knew that it interested me and that it was a skill I wanted to develop. I also have a lot of fun performing comedy in many different formats such as stand up, sketches, videos and my list of ever growing impressions.I have recently graduated from Canterbury Christ Church University gaining a 2:1 BA (Hons) degree in Drama. During my time there many opportunities have arisen for me. It has let me perfect my comedy, my acting and my skills in all areas of drama. This ranges from on stage, behind the stage and the business side of the drama/acting world. Ever since I began studying and performing Drama, I have loved the different areas of it such as physical theatre, directing, stand up comedy, theatre craft, and film production. I also became interested in the practitioners that helped make Drama what it is today such as Brecht, Stanislavski, Meisner, Mamet and Stella Adler. I have found that I had fun learning the different areas of Drama, and I hope that one day I can put many of those skills to further use.
I have put my drama skills to good use, as I have performed both well-known plays and in substantial venues and up and coming original plays that have let me explore a whole range of new and original characters. I acted in a physical theatre piece with the Marlowe Youth Theatre, which was shown on the last day of the old Marlowe before it was demolished prior to its scheduled rebuild. The excitement and buzz you get before you go on stage, performing in front of people is incredible, and I want to keep feeling that in the future with many other skills that I have built upon at my time at my University. I have also performed in many well-known musicals, which has helped to stretch my singing ability; these musicals have included We Will Rock You, Fame and having the privilege to be the first actor in England to play Shrek from Shrek the Musical, which was very enjoyable. The feeling of making people laugh has always made me want to do something in Stand-up Comedy, so I would like to take my Drama skills towards that aspect of the industry, as well as still broadening myself out to all other genres of Drama. My enthusiasm and upbeat attitude is shown in my comedy and I like to think that's what makes my comedy so successful, that both I'm having fun doing it and the audience are having fun watching it.
Drama has also opened the doors to directing to me. I have directed plays such as Bound by Jesse Briton, Bunnies by Kieran Lynn and History Boys by Alan Bennett. To direct these plays has helped me massively with my team working skills, my organisational skills and has given my whole Drama knowledge a whole other level of depth. Directing is something I have enjoyed massively and is something I enjoyed doing when working on my original comedy show with my comedy partner which we both wrote, directed and starred in. This show had singing, dancing, video sketches and live action sketches, which was not only fun to write and act in, but was a pleasure directing and watching it all fall into place and come out with an amazing show that got great reviews.
I have also had experience in working behind and in front of camera. I have produced an opening sequence for a film for my Media coursework in which I also acted. The piece was called ‘I Saw A Zombie Eat Santa Claus', which audiences found very funny and which got a good grade, which then lead to me make a full version of this trailer called ‘Merry Z-Day' which is a feature length Zombie - Comedy that is hoping to be put in different film festivals. This experience helped me with teamwork skills and individual planning. My music video production has also featured in many newspaper articles, detailing the music video, the band, and who directed it. I have also acted in a number of short films, both student films and those intended for the international film festival circuit. A few years ago, I also acted in a training video for the NHS, and will shortly start filming a pilot for a CBBC educational history drama with KETV.
My hobbies include creating music, playing the Jazz and Blues piano at a professional level, which I like to put into the videos that I create. I enjoy reading both novels and scripts, writing books and scripts, and creating short films with and starring my friends and myself.
