I grew up in Southend-on-Sea in Essex. After A-levels (including Drama) I chose to pursue a career in acting starting with a further three years study at the Guildford School of Acting which I completed in 1987. Since then I have worked in the profession on stage, TV and in film. As most professional actors will have discovered, it is not easy to make a decent living in the business and as a result (following the advice of another actor) I decided to study The Knowledge to become a black cab driver in London. After three years, in 2005, I finally achieved this. This has allowed me to remain an actor when times are hard and (despite the three years of hard slog) I would recommend it to other actors as well. I currently live in Byfleet but often return to Southend to visit family and friends when I can.
