I am an experienced Singer and Teacher having taught a variety of ages at many different theatre schools. I am a excellent self-taught Pianist, with brilliant sight-reading skills, suitiable for accompanying a wide range of songs. I'm also a very strong Classical Singer, having gained myself a Distinction at Grade 8 ABRSM in Singing, however, having trained in Musical Theatre I also have a fantastic belt / mix and enjoy exploring other genres from Pop, Jazz and Contemporary Musical Theatre and feel able to teach all of these. I have great knowlege of the singing voice having recently written an extended essay which explored 'To What Extent Can Someone Be Taught To Sing' which I feel has enhanced my teaching ability to students of differing levels. Over the past 8+ years I have also experienced many different Musical Directors and Singing Teachers first hand, at school, privately and more recently in my degree, and so I feel I have a good knowlege of different teaching techniques which can cater for all different types of ability. Currently I am at a Theatre School on Saturdays, where I teach singing to classes of 10+ children between the ages of 6-16 years. My role here includes; researching and preparing suitiable songs for each of the age groups, engaging the children in a fun and exciting lesson, staging songs for presentation in shows and carnivals. Here I often accompany using the Piano to help the children but I also have a good access to backing tracks when I feel it enhances the atmosphere of a song. I have also been employed by a second Theatre School as a rehearsal Pianist in their lead up to Channel 5's 'So You Think You Can Dance' where I was able to observe teaching techniques at the school as well as hone my Piano skills. I was recently hired as Musical Director for the 3rd year Actors Showcase, at The Arden which was performed in both London and Manchester to Casting Directors and Agencies. Here I succesfully taught their final song complete with harmony, dynamics and balance, playing Piano in rehearsal and performance and also providing incidental music in some of the scenes. Other experiences of teaching have been at school, where, in my final year, I managed to teach and encourage 20+ students, in a previously diminising choir, a song that I had written and then led them in a final performance a summer concert. At Arden also, I have often been asked and have given my time to other students when preparing for assesments and exams, giving 30 min or more to each person to help them with their songs, give them excerises to improve on them, and also performance guidance. Further musical training and qualifications include ABRSM in Grade 8 Oboe (Merit) and Grade 5 Theory (Merit), as well as A levels in Music (A) and Performance Studies (A). At The Arden I took on the role of Mable in Guilbert and Sullivan's The Pirates Of Penzance, directed by award winning Tim Flavin, as well as singing with my vocal group ESTA at weddings and functions, playing in pit bands at local college shows, and in the past being members of many wind bands, orchestras and choirs around the North West area and so I have had many Musical experiences which I often use in my teaching. In the furture I hope to acheive a Vocal Teaching qualification in DipABRSM and potential the same in Musical Direction, and also to do some formal Piano exams and lessons to improve on the skills I already have and develop my teaching.
I hope you will consider me for your vacancy.
Many Thanks
