About me
I have worked at the National Theatre, in the West End, many major regional repertory theatres and in television and film. Over the last few years I have diversified into choreography and direction but I am still a highly experienced character actor with a great deal of straight acting experience and much to offer.I have just completed a UK tour of the hit musical '42nd St' playing 'Andy Lee' and prior to that was Nigel Planer's understudy as 'Vorgenson' in 'Dr Who Live' for the BBC UK arena tour. In 2009 I played the iconic comedy role of 'Cosmo Brown' in 'Singin' In The Rain' for UK Productions.
My National Theatre work includes: at 16 years old the part of 'Taplow' in The Browning Version opposite Alec McCowan, directed by Michael Rudman, then 'Cis Farringdon' opposite Nigel Hawthorne in The Magistrate - also directed by Michael Rudman. Also at the NT I played opposite Ken Stott in 'The Ghost Sonata' by Strindberg at the National Theatre studio and he was also 'The Headmaster' in the hit children's musical 'The Red Balloon' - directed by Anthony Clark - at the Olivier Theatre. In repertory other acting roles include 'PC Collins' in 'Rumours'(Chichester) with Simon Ward, 'Bennet' in 'Another Country'(Leeds Playhouse), 'Bill Calhoun' in 'Kiss Me Kate' at Regent's Park, 'George Pepper' in 'Red Peppers'(Perth),'Kenny' in 'Flora The Red Menace' (Orange Tree) and 'Tony' in 'The Rink' (Orange Tree) 'Angel Clare' in 'Tess of the D'Urbevilles'(West Yorkshire Playhouse), 'Claudio' in 'Much Ado About Nothing '(Wolsey Ipswich) 'Jerry' in 'Zoo Story('Wolsey Ipswich), 'Byron Turkey' in 'Fat Pig' (Leicester Haymarket), 'Flute' in 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' (Sheffield Crucible).
My most recent film appearances are: 'Confetti' with Martin Freeman in 2011 and the 2014 release of 'The Muppets - The Sequel!!!' with Ricky Gervais.
I was in the original David Merrick version of 42nd St at Drury Lane in 1984 as an ensemble member and later went on to play the leading role of 'Billy Lawlor' opposite Catherine Zeta-Jones.
I have played Ugly Sister and several panto and light opera roles for Opera Della Luna including 'Negus' in 'The Merry Widow' and a world cruise on the QE2 and Royal Viking Sun.
In 1992 I played the role of 'Simon Wishart' in a one-man show 'A Drop of Fred' at the Edinburgh Festival which I co-wrote with Robert Butler and for which we received The Independent Theatre Award and a Daily Express award. The show was also commissioned for screen by Granada Television.
In 2000 I returned to the Edinburgh Festival with 'Tapestry' my second one-man show which I performed and co-wrote with Andrew Blackie and which was produced by Artisanda Productions ltd.
Television work includes: 'Baa Baa Blacksheep' (BBC), 'WSH' (Channel 4), 'Ashenden - The Spy' (BBC), 'Pie In The Sky' (ITV), 1984 Royal Variety Performance, Night of 100 Stars, the Laurence Olivier Awards, Blue Peter and An Audience with Harry Hill.
