About me
I am a professional actor and voiceover artist. You can view my showreel on my profile and listen to my voice reels on my website www.melaniecrawley.com and on Spotlight https://www.spotlight.com/6213-5649-8764I'm a versatile and instinctive actor with good experience across different forms, particularly theatre. I am not afraid to tackle complex physiological and emotionally driven performances and am comfortable with substantial roles. I work hard to prepare for each job and love the process of bringing a character to life.
I produced 'In a Forest, Dark and Deep' by Neil LaBute at Greater Manchester Fringe in 2016 - I also designed the show and performed the female role (its an American two-hander). In November 2018 I took another two-hander role in a new play: 'Tannie & Tannie' by Claudine Bennent which I again produced and am currently scheduling for a northern UK tour in 2019.
I am interested in all kinds of theatre as an actor - from Shakespeare to highly stylised, visual performance to naturalistic work and this is reflected in my CV. I took multiple-roles in the Manchester Girl Gang / Unseemly Women all-female production of Romeo and Juliet at Hope Mill Theatre in 2018, was commissioned to write, produce and perform in 'Three Post-Apocalyptic Comedians Walk Into a Bar…' for Rebuild Festival, Sheffield in 2017 - an episodic semi-immersive and interactive short performance and my interest in naturalistic drama is reflected in the LaBute project from 2016 and I have taken training in the past two years to develop technique and practice my skills in Play With Fire's scene study in Manchester.
I love working with my voice and have completed narration for several audiobooks (available on Audible) as well as various radio sketch and drama / doc projects. I have an assured, no-nonsense, trustworthy natural voice; mature, believable, sincere and gentle. I'm a versatile character-voice actor with a range of accents, able to deliver intensely dramatic readings as well as excellent comic timing. My voice naturally falls between early 30’s and early 50’s and I can provide character voices between 20’s and late 50’s or older.
I can produce good quality mono voice recordings from my studio in a variety of digital formats including WAV / MP3; I am also available to work with you on site or you can direct me remotely.
I have experience in academic and medical role-play and bring varied experience from 'real world' business to bear having worked as a self employed designer / decorator and at a senior level in the film exhibition sector for 25 years.
I'm also interested in and have a good knowledge of (independent) film. You can view my showreel which shows some of the work I have done on camera recently.
I studied drama and theatre studies as part of my Creative Arts degree at MMU (Drama and Visual Art BA(hons) and regularly undertake workshops and acting courses to improve and enhance my skills and keep in good practice.
