  • About
Our books are open and we are particularly welcome applications from BAME actors.
The agency is looking for talented, friendly and hardworking actors and actresses who want to be part of a supportive, creative and successful agency.

The Actors File is a small boutique Co-operative Personal Management founded in 1983. As one of the first waves of co-operatives in Britain it was at the forefront of the changing face of representation. We do our utmost to stay there, remaining competitive and accessible. Started by 5 actors (2 of whom are still with us) we now represent around 25 actors covering a wide range of types and skills.

Many producers, directors and casting directors are keen to deal and work with Co-operatives. We are often more pro-active and committed performers and have a wide understanding of the way the industry works.

Over the years, The Actors File have supplied artists for The National Theatre, Royal Shakespeare Company, Festival Theatre Chichester, The Royal Court, Shakespeare's Globe, and many West End and touring productions, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Casualty, EastEnders, Channel 4 Shorts, A Touch Of Frost, Midsomer Murders, Hetty Wainthrop Investigates, Peaky Blinders, Black Mirror, Silk, endless commercials, both British and International Features...to name but a few.

We have strong links with new writing, up-and-coming directors and all the major repertory companies. We are consistently working to maintain, as well as broaden our contacts and connections within an ever-changing industry, and get the best possible work for our clients.

The Actors File is a member of the Co-Operative Personal Managers Association (CPMA)

    What is a Co-operative Agency?
A co-operative agency is where the actor is also the agent. As an actor and agent you are required to work in the office on behalf of the other actor/clients when not performing. Each actor commits one day a week to the agency, sees applicants' and clients' shows and attends business meetings on a monthly basis.

What are the benefits of a Co-operative Agency?
Members benefit from a high quality, connected and bespoke representation. The agency runs as a not-for-profit organisation which allows for a very high agent to actor ratio on any given office day. As members work together closely on a regular basis it means they are more confident of each other's strengths and talents. Members are not paid for their office time but instead the agency charges lower commission rates and each actor has a stronger control over their career.

As a member of the agency, each actor has a great deal of knowledge of how the industry works and what is currently being produced. The agency is a friendly and supportive collective which eliminates the 'waiting for the phone to ring' feeling and instead empowers the actors to take control of their careers, surrounded by like-minded creative people.

How to apply to become a member of The Actors File:

Please email the agency on its Applications email address: apply@theactorsfile.co.uk (Please do not send applications to the main office email or send hard copies).

In your email put a link to your Spotlight CV (and any showreel or voicereel), let the agency know why you would like to become a member, what you have done so far in your career (training and productions) and what you would like to do in the future. Please also let the agency know why you think you would specifically like co-operative personal management and what you could bring to this side of the business.

As part of the application process the agency would need to see your work, so if you are currently in a show that's a good way to get to know you, or if you're on the telly that would be great too, and showreels can also do the trick. If not, don't worry, The Actors File also holds regular auditions to ensure the agency is open to those who aren't currently working.

Finally don't forget to let the agency know if you have worked with or met any of the The Actors File's members.
