Highlights

Have modelled for the covers of various play/musical productions and concerts. Most recently modelled the picture for a Musical performance of 'What You Will' at the Edinburgh Fringe, due to be performed in the West End in January. Apart from those, I have had a limited amount of modelling experience.
I have had many experiences in presenting which could count as Modeling experiences; for example, I was at a Cambridge Pre-U Conference and I won the presentation competition at the end of the day. I have also gained Distinctions in English Speaking Board qualifications and I have captained school House Debating Teams to victory. I also take part in Model United Nations which is a UN debating conference around the country, for instance, in Edinburgh I gained the Outstanding Delegate Award, at Manchester I gained the Best Delegate award and at two London Conferences I have gained a Highly Commended Delegate Award and a Distinguished Delegate Award. These public speaking conferences often contain up to 600 others pupils from other schools around the country, aged 13-18. -

In the last three years I have worked with very experienced Directors who have given me valuable training and experience in Acting and Theatre. My experiences at the Edinburgh Fringe have been amazing, my first with Racing Demon was an insight into the Fringe and what it was all about. This year has been the performing side to things because I had a main part in 'What You Will', based on Shakespeare, adapted by the Second Master at my School. We received three 5* reviews and two 4* reviews; here are some extracts from the reviews about my individual performances;
http://www.edfringe.com/whats-on/musicals-operas/what-you-will
5* Review from British Theatre Guide - 'Malvolio finally dressing up in black leathers and chains was hilarious and worked superbly'
5* Review from Broadway Baby - Malvolio's melodrama brought the house down, his pomp and ceremony played out wonderfully. His singing style reflected his role nicely, overly florid and operatic, and complementary to Olivia. At no point did he seem like a boy or an actor pretending to be someone else. It was most fascinating.'
4* Review - 'Malvolio was bizarre and brilliantly played by Sam'
Reviewed on first showing 'Sam is a real talent as Malvolio. The character’s inability to see through the central ruse is sublimely played, sung with gusto and timed to perfection. Discovery is staunchly portrayed and Fanning has, to the audience’s surprise, allowed him more than the threat of revenge'
5* Star review by The Stage - there were some truly excellent singers, notably.. Sam (Malvolio) -
I have a primary interest in Musical Theatre and Music. I achieved the Barnaby Music Scholarship after being at my school three years, which is a Scholarship awarded every year. This allows me to have covered training under a nationally acclaimed singer. I feel my training over the past 3 years at Shrewsbury has been so beneficial to my development. I am trained as a Tenor/Baritone in mainly Music Theatre, Classical and Jazz (Big Band). My main influences are composers like Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondhiem and singers like Michael Buble. I have had lessons in music theory and after getting my Grade 5 theory, I am now working towards Grade 7/8. I am also working towards a Diploma in Musical Theatre. I am currently working towards grades in piano and I like to accompany myself by singing/playing Buble and Elton John repertoire, here are some of my musical experiences over the past few years;
2012 - Gained part of Monostatos for The Magic Flute, performance in April of 2012
2011 - Tenor Soloist of Mass Coronation for Community Choir
2011 - Tenor Soloist of performance of Beatus Vir
2011 - Soloist in performance at Maccyncleth, Tabernacle, Wales
2011 - Member of A Cappella Group, various upcoming Gigs
2011 - Many performances at School Concerts
2011 - Was part of Tenor 1 section for full scale performance of the Faure Requiem at Birmingham Town Hall with Shrewsbury Community Choir
2011 - Part of School Tenor 1 Section in School Chapel Choir
2011 - Part of School Tenor 1 Section in School selected Chamber Choir
2010 - Offered place in Welsh National Youth Opera Company for The Sleeper (sadly couldn't uptake offer because rehearsals were going over the main GCSE exam period)
2010 - Invited to do a Sondhiem concert with West End professionals and RADA adjudicators
2010 - Was on Song's of Praise for selected Choir for Darwin Episode
2010 – Performed major solo at Maccyncleth, The Tabernacle
2010 – Performed the Salor solo in Dido and Aeneas at Shrewsbury School
2010 – Performed in Carmina Burama at Birmingham Town Hall
2009 – School Chamber Choir performances at various venues
2009 – Performed solo at Competition (3rd Place) in A Cappella group
2008 – Part of selected Schola Choir
2008 – Shrewsbury School Chapel Choir performances at Cathedrals
2007 – School Chamber Choir performances at various Churches and Halls
2006 – Part of School Chamber Choir which performed/recorded Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man
2005 – Won Singing Competition (part of Wrexham Festival)
2004/2005 – Part of invitational Choir, which performed at Llangollen Eisteddfod
2003 – Performed Solo at Llangollen Town Hall
I feel over the past three years at Shrewsbury School I have had many performing opportunities, both at School and outside of School in many different venues. This has given me the confidence to look further a field and hopefully get the chance to have more musical opportunities. This year I have been paid to perform at Weddings in Shropshire, this has been either classically or Big Band performances, and they have been valuable experiences.
