About me
Alexandra von Schelling is a documentary filmmaker & video editor. Her films explore pressing political and social issues through personal stories, with a particular focus on Latin America. Her film 'Limitless' (2015) about a drag queen from a small village outside Havana, was screened at Pink Apple LGBT Film Festival, Roze Filmadagen Film Festival, Asterisco Film Festival and IDAHOT Pride Festival. Her most recent short film 'Who's Your Dad?' (2018), a documentary about women's untold experiences of sexism in the film industry, won the audience award at Cine Vivo! Latin American Film Festival and the jury award at London Independent Film Awards. She is currently working on two new films: one about a pre-revolutionary five star hotel in Havana and another about the women of the FARC and their role in the peace process in Colombia.Additional information:
Her interest in documentary emerged from a background in journalism. She has written for new channels such as VICE and EL MUNDO, covering events such as the C.I.A enhanced interrogation methods, Benjamin Netanyahu's declaration of a Jewish state, as well as interviewed musicians such as Pussy Riot, Cyndi Lauper, Rod Stewart and the Darkness. Alexandra has extensive experience in researching and developing compelling stories as well as a huge passion for finding innovative and engaging ways to tell them across different mediums. She has worked as a video editor of online content for the AHRC University of Essex research project in Brazil. She has also edited several short documentaries, experimental short films and promotional videos.
