About me
Professional Fight Director and Stage Combat Teacher. After serving a 4 year apprenticeship at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, Gordon now directs fights for both theatre and film and teaches combat at East 15 Acting School, Bath Spa, Exeter and Fordham UniversitiesAdditional information:
Reviews:
The Rover, New Diorama Theatre, 2012
"The comic swordfights are a miracle of direction by Gordon Kemp, given the limitations of space."
(Sheila Cornelius, Remote Goat)
The Tragedy Of Soliman & Perseda, The Rose Theatre, Bankside, 2010:
" it's the deaths on stage, the battles of the fates, and the relevance of the sharp comedic dialogue that will have audiences gripped for the duration of this love story."
(Rebecca Patton, Remote Goat.)
"The production repeatedly asked us to respond to characters who met unjust fates, and didn't shy away from the horrific killings of Julio and Guelpio, or those of the bumbling witnesses procured by Soliman. The most pathos, though, came from the death of Lucina her murder was one of the cruellest moments of the production, and the fact it was at the hands of the heroine complicated our emotional responses even further. This wasn't a world of good and bad so much as one of wrong decisions and unfair consequences."
(Peter Kirwan, The Bardathon.)
Macbeth, Riverside Studios, 2009:
"the final showdown between Macbeth and Macduff, with the latter ultimately avenging the death of his wife and children with a crowbar, makes the brutality of the action very real and contemporary." Hayley Barker (Science Is A Lie, Theatre Blog)
"The culminating nail-biting finale, skillfully choreographed by Gordon Kemp, literally had the audience on the edge of their seats, not least because they were located within the knife-wielding combat-zone itself." Samuel John (ExtraExtra.org)
