About me
In 2006, based on my knowledge and skills gained from my profession as a social worker, I set up a charitable film production company called Glocal Films, delivering film services and media education projects to the social, educational and development sector. As a film maker I am specialised in conceptualising and delivering bespoke large scale international film projects with vulnerable people from all backgrounds, ages and abilities. I have work experience in about 60 countries around the world. My skills are in camera work and editing as well as project management and fundraising. I speak German, English, Spanish and some French. I am interested in the environment, gender equality, migration, intercultural dialogue and peace building.Referees:

A bit about my charitable film company Glocal Films
Glocal Films is a London based, non-profit film production company specialised in participatory video projects and documentary filmmaking. Our main aim is to communicate intercultural experiences, to refashion conventional views of marginal subjects and to facilitate the democratic and communal use of technology and filmic expression.
We collaborate closely with international charities, social organisations and institutes in the cultural, educational and international development sector.
Being a women-led company with a unique combination of qualifications in social work, anthropology and filmmaking equips us with a special combination of technical, interpersonal and intercultural skills and informs our project designs and concepts.
For more than 15 years we have worked in more than 50 countries around the world with people from various social, cultural and religious backgrounds of all ages and abilities. We believe strongly in the method of participatory video to be a tool for empowerment, communication and community cohesion, enabling stakeholders to actively engage with and shape existing policies and systems and trigger social change.
We work across gender, generations and cultures by facilitating awareness and understanding through dialogue and exchange. Sustainability, longevity and a maximized audience reach are core elements in all our projects. In many of our projects, our participants produce unique teaching tools that are distributed according to an integrated dissemination strategy, which is led by trained multipliers as part of the overall concept. We work with a high degree of flexibility and adjust to local situations and demands.
In 2016, we I developed and facilitated a multidisciplinary pilot project on the topic of gender equality and gender-based violence in Mali, that combines quantitative research methods with participatory video and forum theatre. The project was financed by UN Women in Mali and in collaboration with the social scientist Kirstin Grosse-Frie PhD. The project culminated in a public screening event in Bamako, hosted by the Malian Minister for Women’s Affairs, Children and Family. Since then, UN Women has been touring with the film package throughout Mali, hosting screening events that further stimulate dialogue and raise awareness and understanding between gender and generations. A scientific paper depicting the project’s findings will be published at the end of 2018. This link: http://www.glocalfilms.net/haklina-falen/ leads to the project documentary.
With the aim of promoting dialogue and understanding between internally displaced people (IDPs) and their hosting communities in Ukraine, we developed a participatory video project in collaboration with the GIZ in Ukraine in 2016. Rooted within the GIZ program of 'Psychological Support and Conflict Management’, we facilitated three film workshops with different participant constellations, allowing IDPs and non-IDPs of different age groups to get together and collaborate on the production of their own films. The workshops resulted in a total of six films, in which our participants reflect on, share and exchange their views and personal experiences of the current conflict and its direct effect on people’s lives in Ukraine. Each workshop was followed by a public screening event that offered a platform for exchange and dialogue to the wider community. As part of the dissemination strategy, we trained a multi-professional team of local multipliers, who continue using the films in engaging a growing community in the dialogue. http://www.glocalfilms.net/live-together/
2017 as part of the EU MARS Project and in close collaboration with scientists of the university of Duisburg-Essen I produced an awareness video to promote 'The Good Ecological Status of Rivers and Lakes'. The film conveys the essential value of a healthy aquatic ecosystem for all life and is screened internationally at various symposiums on the topic of water protection. It is available on numerous online platforms and serves as a teaching tool within academia as well as being targeted at the general public. http://www.glocalfilms.net/good-ecological-status/
September 2018, we started our current ‘UmWelten’ project, a collaborative participatory film project for young people that we will facilitate in collaboration with a number of different Goethe-Institutes around the world. In each country a group of young German leaners produces two films on environmental issues that are specific to that particular region. A first film focuses on environmental pollution whereas a second film documents a good practice example. Through their films, the students are able to speak to experts and explore potential reasons and risks of environmental pollution and identify the barriers to reverse the effects. The project aims to raise awareness and to motivate positive activism. All films will be available through an online film library and will serve as a teaching tool for teachers worldwide.
We piloted ‘UmWelten’ in Karachi/ Pakistan, where the project was embedded in a youth conference on sustainable living.
