That's just it though, it is the HOOK!
So from a professional capacity only? Am I to belive that it is now perfectly acceptable to parade yourself on live TV to win a reality show?
I know what your'e saying, there's slim pickings for all of us. Maybe a change of image is in order for that little extra leverage. I aren't stuck in the past, I am fully aware of the difficulties of casting in a modern society.
But why put yourself through years of training and hard work to enilst in a popularity showcase?
Yes, these shows don't rely on talent, then let the talentless do them, the west end will soon fall on it's arse if their stars are all cringeworthy performers. And the ones that aren't? Well, as with any reality format, they let some really bad ones through so that the mediocre ones, who wouldn't normally get a second glance at an audition, look and sound fantastic!
They don't want good talent, they want fanatical wannabes who'd do anything for the spotlight, that have so-so abilities, so that they can train them up to be who they want them to be, so they'll become so indebted to them, that they won't mind the lesser pay (as it'll be made aware that they spent a fortune on them so the end contract will show this) and so long as the spotlight remains on them, they'll do anything asked of them.
If you think this is far fetched, where do you think Pygmalion, Trading Places or My Fair Lady stems from? The reknowned have always tried to make a no-body into a somebody, it's nothing new.
They've proved many times they can make singers out of non-singers, Philip Schofield being a prime example, Llyod Webber's Professor Higgins to Schofields Eliza.
Yes, more opportunites need to come our way, but convincing yourself that this is how it is now and to go with it, will only create more of them, till it becomes the STANDARD PRACTICE. Eeeeek, Dark Time's Lie Ahead Harry!!!
Come on Mr Spacey, Give 'Em HELL!
