About me
My name is Joe Tate, I have been working as a freelance sound designer and engineer since 2009. The majority of my work has been with animation, and Musical Theatre, and I have very close ties with the Royal College of Art Animation course, for which I have done six sound designs, one being the BAFTA nominated Matter Fisher by David Prosser, and the two I finished May of last year were part of the official selection at Sundance film festival in February. I am currently working on a further two for completion in May. Since my initial leg up, I have worked on a freelance basis for production companies; Mummu, Agile, and Hornet. Clients include; Nokia, Nike, Channel 4, MTV, Coats and WeSC.I work from a small home studio, and base a lot of my work around bespoke field recorded audio and foley, all of which I enjoy doing myself, and have filed away for use on any project that requires it, although I also have extensive knowledge of synthesis and sequencing should particular projects not require this approach.
I have gathered knowledge and built a career from the ground up, without any formal training. I am still learning as I work, and I am keen to try new approaches, processes and ideas and will learn whatever I need to deliver the most exciting and forward thinking results possible, whilst sticking to the harsh deadlines so common in the industry and maintaining a professional attitude throughout the process.
