As the World Turns (often referred to as ATWT) is an Emmy award winning American television soap opera that airs each weekday on CBS.
The show passed its 10,000th episode on May 12, 1995, is well past 13,000 episodes currently, and celebrated its 50th anniversary on April 2, 2006. On September 21, 2009, As the World Turns will reach two milestones. One will be the show being the last remaining Procter and Gamble produced soap opera on television, as Guiding Light will be airing its final story on CBS three days earlier on September 18. Additionally, As the World Turns will become the longest running soap opera currently airing on television, succeeding the aforementioned Guiding Light (which was canceled earlier in 2009).
