Yinka Oyewole is a British/Nigerian singer/songwriter whose influences include Sly Stone, David Bowie, Funkadelic and Elvis Costello from which he carves his own unique niche, adapting funk in a similar way to how The Black Keys have adapted blues. Yinka also draws upon his Nigerian heritage (very evident in the syncopated rhythms) and his diverse background which includes stints in London, Scotland and New York. Weaving excellent storytelling with insistent grooves, unrelenting hooks and super soulful vocals it’s music you’ll feel as much as hear!

The last few years have been very busy for Yinka. Fronting Sabatta he has played across the world – a resident at the seminal Shunt in London 2009, the same year he played the Afro Punk Festival in New York alongside Janelle Monae, Zoe Kravitz and Saul Williams. in 2010 he played Les Printemps De Nefs Festival in Nantes, France. In 2011 Yinka played the Dogstar in Istanbul Turkey and the CMJ Festival in New York at the Shout It Out Loud/ Box Of Milk Showcase.

Uncompromising and defiantly individual, Yinka is an artist as true to his art as you will ever see. Unconcerned with trends and fashion, Yinka fashions his songs with heart, intensity and genuine emotion.
