About me
Johnny Thirakul is a Laotian-Canadian actor, musician, and creator. He aspires to grow his artistry through his creative work and life in hopes of inspiring young IBPOC artists, with an emphasis on Asian-Canadians, to pursue their artistic endeavours. Johnny hopes to launch a career as an actor in film and television, as well as theatre.Previous credits include Alice Birch’s Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again., Christopher Chen’s The Late Wedding, and Branden Jacob-Jenkins’ Everybody as part of the [email protected] Acting Conservatory. Most recently, he made his professional theatre debut in Phoenix Arts' 1184 by Azeem Nathoo, which premiered at Theatre Passe Muraille. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts with Specialized Honours in Acting, from the Department of Theatre at York University in June 2022.
During his academic career, Johnny has received training from many theatre practitioners, including Eric Armstrong, Gwenyth Dobie, Tosha Doiron, Niki Landau, Keira Loughran, Allyson McMackon, Jamie Robinson, Anita La Selva, Laurel Paetz Smith, Mark Wilson, among others. His experience includes working on Improvisation, Dialects, Alexander Technique, River/Source Work, and studying different genres including Contemporary, Shakespeare, Farce Comedy, and Greek Tragedy. Johnny has been the recipient of the Jean Gascon Award and The Mac Shoub Scholarship for demonstrating exceptional achievements in Acting.
Johnny is ready to share his enthusiasm for his craft and desire to tap the human soul with those he crosses paths with along his artistic career.
