About me

Ali Hamidia is an international artist currently based in Toronto, Canada. Gifted with a multidisciplinary practice as both a fine-art photographer and a cinematographer, Ali’s work infuses the zeal for storytelling. Ali grew up in Shanghai, China, where he attended Shanghai Community International School where he was exposed to Iranian New Wave and Italian Neo-realism. These two cinematic movements profoundly influenced Ali’s passion for embracing metaphoric imagery to complement his drama-driven storytelling.

In 2016, Ali moved to Los Angeles, California, to pursue his higher eduction in Photography and Media at California Institute of the Arts. In 2018, President Trump’s levied Muslim Travel Ban induced Ali to immigrate to Montreal, Canada, to continue his BFA education in Film Production at Concordia University. Since his graduation with distinction in 2020, Ali has been working professionally as a cinematographer and a gaffer on narrative films and web-based commercials.
