Rocky Mountains wildlife at the peek of the worst forest fire on record
Image standing beneath one of world's greatest icons, the Canadian Rocky Mountains. I set out on an epic adventure to capture them in all their glory using a full frame 6K cinema camera. I wanted to encounter the towering mountains, the diverse range of wildlife and landscape, but had no idea what lay ahead of me. I quickly found myself trying to stay a head of the worst wild fire season on record as it came at me from all directions. The rain helped to temper these burning infernos, while at the same time making it even more difficult to film. The distinction between rain and smoke became a real challenge. If the forest fires weren't enough, when the camera arrived on location part of the card reader was missing. This meant I only had a total of thirty minutes of storage for my whole shoot over seven days. Making this whole process even that much more difficult I was navigating through this rough terrain with a one and thirty pound camera package as a Filmmaker with Disabilities. It truly was a test of fundamental film making, taking me back to the early days of my career. This was a lesson I needed I suppose, as it helped sharpen my skills. But the most important aspect of this journey was the gift of appreciation. It served as a reminder of just how precious our forests should be to us and I am so happy I can share them with everyone.
