A political satire set in the 19th century about two death row prisoners looking for a means of escape.

Set in a make believe European kingdom, the story follows two main characters, Victor and Gregor. Victor is a young idealist trying to usher in a socialist utopia and his prison mate, Gregor, is a hedonist soldier. Both men quarrel and accidentally hurt the prison guard. This results in a premature death sentence. However, they are given a chance to reconcile in front of the firing squad.
