The Art of Reconciliation

2017, 22 minutes

The reaction of non-Indigenous children to the interactive and artistic teachings of Chief Lady Bird.

This film focused on Chief Lady Bird's immersive works with Grades 5 & 6 students at a primary school in Toronto. Together, Chief Lady Bird and the kids painted a large mural embedded with Anishinaabe teachings; engaged in Ojibwe story-telling; learned about murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls; and about the residential schools system in Canada. It was clear by responses from the children that their level of retention was greatly increased when engaging with an Indigenous artist and educator.
