The Struggles Of An Artist

Hey, all my fellow creatives! I have a question for you. I'm conducting some research on the film industry and what it's like to be an aspiring artist, so I want to ask you: What do you think is the most difficult part of this industry? Is it getting noticed? Building a demo reel? Getting experience behind the camera? Getting an agent? It may be anything and I'd really appreciate some of your thoughts it would help me out a lot! Ill let you know what I come up with from your responses :)

Hey Dylan,

Nice to meet you on here :)

I think all of what you mentioned is definitely valid and many actors would agree with all of it. I also think for some as much as they want to act they don't push themselves hard and fall back with rejections which makes all of the above even more difficult. I believe that it all depends on the individual to be honest. It's a tough industry.
As far as for me I think at the beginning it was having to work and finding the time in between for classes and auditions. Balancing all at first was hard specially when my job at the time was during the day. That caused a lot of missed auditions and skipped paid classes which made it hard to get noticed, be available for auditions and keep myself on an agents roster. Thankfully I was able to get out of that and focus more on what I love (acting)...hope that answers your question.
Cheers,
Pegah

Hi Dylan,
I agree with Pegah....all of the above are the realistic challenges. For me, waiting for that really great footage that I've been part of to finally be made available to me for my demo reel is my biggest. It can take months to years. Often though, it's worth the wait if the post production is doing an incredible job.
But, I think actors make it all the more stressful on themselves! When they begin to compare their progress in this industry to other actors and their progress - that's a bad trap to fall into for anyone. Actors have so very little control over most results.
If you authentically want to act, you want to nurture your craft and yourself! It's not about the $$, the fame, the ego, etc. Super hard to practice because social media, too many 'expert' opinions, and industry ads are always in our faces stressing the opposite.
If you really want to act, you'll put in the work where and when you can, do your research, and be patient.
Hope this kind of helps too?
Kathy
