Why can't I upload my showreel?

Here's a few things to check if you're having trouble uploading a file:

Is it under 200 megabytes? You can check this by right-clicking on the file, then selecting 'Properties' if you're on a PC, or 'Get Info' if you're on a Mac. A box should pop up telling you the size of the file. If it's over 200 megabytes we recommend contacting the person who originally made it and seeing if you can get it compressed to a smaller size. 

Have you selected the right file type? When you're uploading a file, you can select from the drop-down menu the type of file it is (we use .avi, .mpg, .mov and .wmv). This needs to match the type of file it is. 

Are you trying to upload from a CD or DVD, or directly from a link? Unfortunately this won't work - it needs to specifically be a computer file. You should be able to get one from the person who made it.

If you can't work out what's wrong you can always send us the file by email or post and we can try to upload it for you.

You may have selected the wrong file type (see above) - if so just delete the one that's there and try to upload it again.

There are a number of different formats showreels can be played on the web - the most common of these are wmv, avi and mpg.

Each format usually requires a different showreel player, quicktime player, real audio player or even windows media player. To make the life of an employer easier, we automatically convert all uploaded showreels into flash so it can be played in all browsers without having to download new software for each video file. This conversion is a standardised process and works for the majority of showreels, however from time to time the end result can be fuzzy or distorted.

This can avoided by ensuring your showreel format matches that used by our system.

For ideal results please convert your showreel to :

24 frames per second

width: 304px;

height: 224px;

If you are still encountering problems try converting the film to one of the other formats and see which uploads best.
