Harold is a germaphobe who struggles with OCD. He becomes enamored in news stories about the virus. Harold begins to obsess over cleanliness. This causes a growing fear of the outside world, and soon Harold becomes agoraphobic. A rift is created between him and his partner Chelsea due to Harold's worsening reclusiveness. After many ignored phone calls Chelsea finally goes to confront Harold. She tries to be warm and consoling, but Harold can think of nothing but her "germs". Chelsea tries to embrace Harold but he pushes her away in disgust. Chelsea leaves with a wounded heart, and Harold continues to obsess. Soon after his abandonment of love he starts hallucinating. He resorts to extreme measures to rid his life of germs. Eventually he gives into his fears letting himself be swallowed by the filth.
