Title: BreatheGenre: DramaTagline: The body remembers.Logline: A mindfulness yoga session triggers Milo to relive the traumatic event of losing her friend, Ira.Synopsis: Milo has been dealing with PTSD. She tries to find her breath; a sense of calm through mindfulness yoga. But instead of calm, deep breathing triggers Milo to confront what happened that night with Ira. Vivid memories filled with anxiety, arguments, love and external forces lead to that moment- when Ira confesses his love for Milo- when a stray bullet pierces through the window. As the yoga instructor guides the class, profound overwhelm quickly consumes Milo, jolting her to choose another means to cope; alcohol.Director's Statement: As an observer, I am always fascinated by people's ability to persevere when life gets tough—especially when your world stops but the world at large keeps going—that disconnect is profoundly jarring to me. I marvel at the resilience it takes to keep showing up in the world, to maintain the routine, to keep trying when your body feels like it's betraying you; stuck in dissonance, unable to process and make sense of the world around you.The approach, to find the beauty within the pain. To create a visceral, textural piece that utilizes sound and image, giving the viewer a subjective experience. To tell a gripping story about Milo, who feels unsafe in her body, environment, and those around her after witnessing firsthand Ira shot in the comfort of his own home.Breathe is a short film that explores mindfulness themes like "the body remembers" and the different ways we breathe - whether with ease, with unawareness, in need of support, or our breath-- taken from us.For me, it's about intimacy, feeling connected with someone and feeling disconnected from everything. It's about breathing; Not taking the breath for granted, and honouring those who've passed on. Recognizing that coping looks different for everyone. And acknowledging coping methods that work in one situation doesn't always work in another—themes to consider. Attachments:
