Murdoch Mysteries is a Canadian television drama series aired on both City and CBC Television, titled 'The Artful Detective' on the Ovation cable TV network in the US.
William Murdoch, played by Yannick Bisson is a police detective working in Toronto. He utilises modern day investigation techniques in the setting of 19th century Canada to solve crimes in a 'case of the week' format.
The show's immense popularity in Canada and further afield (including the USA & UK) has lead the show to its 13th season. The show first aired in 2008 and has returned at least once per year since then. Starting at 13 episodes, seasons now run at 18+ episodes. Before being picked up for weekly episodes the show was first shown int he form of 3 TV movies:
