ALRA provides excellent training in all aspects of theatre production with the option to specialise skills in one area. It has a great community and friendly, welcoming environment for learning. I chose ALRA because the course allows students to work on back to back shows throughout the 2 years to gain experience in all departments of the productions. There is also opportunity for learning from industry professionals and going on work placements.

As a student at ALRA I have learnt and grown so much as a person and as an actor. The course is varied and has provided great opportunities in working with professional actors and directors.

The deciding factor for me in going to ALRA was the real family atmosphere within the school. There are so few students at any one time that you tend to know everyone at the school that was important for me - I felt at home there, and still feel part of the community a year after graduating. The training doesn't specialise in one technique or medium, they simply throw ideas at you for three years and see what sticks. Everyone that left from my year left with their own techniques and style, in my opinion everyone an individual and a better actor.

Alra is a no nonsense Drama school that allows actors to find their own way creatively without specifying in one certain area. The tutors are very realistic and will help actors to identify what they need to work on and introduce you to the skills required to survive as an actor. It is no secret that that the average actor's wage is £8000 per year with most of us not even hitting that figure, Alra will re-inforce this into actors and give a good rounding of what you bring as an actor and how you will be seen by others.

Course: Post Graduate Acting, 2008
I graduated from the postgraduate course in the Summer of 2008 after one of the most challenging yet rewarding years of my life. The ALRA postgrad course encourages people from various non-dramatic backgrounds to use their life experience as a foundation to build upon with intensive, enjoyable drama training. In our particular year we had people from all over...vets, doctors, business people and types who had done something completely different at undergrad like myself. The best thing about the course is that, if you completely throw yourself into all of the opportunties presented to you, you will get an enormous amount out of the year. We genuinely learned something new everyday which, in itself, enriched all of us who took part making us all much happier people! The course also created a team spirit amongst the twelve of us 'OYs' which has been great since we've graduated as we know we have a network of people and friends that we can call upon if we ever need help. ALRA as a college has also been incredibly helpful since graduating. They've always been available via the phone or in person to give advice if requested or just to celebrate in your successes. They've also always been flexible in allowing you to use college facilities and just generally helping out. To sum up, the course gives you a huge amount of quality training as well as the opportunity to meet people who will support you for the duration of the course and for the years after you graduate as a confident, happy and employable performer. ALRA offers a well rounded training, including tv and radio, which many other insitutions skip out, to the disadvantage of their graduates. A close knit community atmosphere, coupled with the beautiful surroundings makes it a great place to learn. The Voice training was especially good.

I trained at ALRA on the 3 Year Acting Course from 2005-2008 and can honestly say they were the best 3 years of my life! I learned so much at ALRA and made so many great friends. I also learned a lot about myself over the 3 years and gained an awareness that I think every actor needs - be it technique (Voice and Body), Emotional (the discipline of an actor), Cultural (Opening my eyes to the many different plays, playwrights and styles) and Professional (Etiquette for the industry). Since leaving ALRA I have worked professionally in TV, Film and Theatre. I would advise anyone who wants to be an actor to train at drama school, particularly at ALRA. Stephen Lloyd.

I chose this course because I wanted to refresh my skills after a break away from the business and I was glad that I did so. I gained a greater confidence as an actress being on the course, was taught by some very excellent tutors and made good friends. I thoroughly recommend ALRA.

It was quite a few years ago, its run by different people now with different tutors. I enjoyed it, I think like most things you get a lot out of something if you put a lot into something.I learned a lot about myself there. On the whole it was a posive experience.
