About me
I am a final year student who has recently graduated with a first class honours in Film and English Literature BA at the University of East Anglia. In addition to my degree, I have spent the last couple of months focusing on my future career prospects.I recently undertook valuable work experience at regional news outlet, Kent Live. During my experience I was able to write and publish my own articles as well as interview members of the public. I also contacted local businesses and companies, which refined my phone communication skills and general etiquette. My experience at Kent Live allowed me to develop key research, organization and communication skills, which I believe are integral to performing well in this work environment. I have also interned at video production company, Rooted Productions. During my time here, I travelled to different locations to assist on shoots and general production, as well as navigating London transport systems to perform various tasks for the producer. While I enjoyed researching for funding and film shoots, and synchronizing audio and visuals using Premiere Pro, it was the creative aspects of this role that I thoroughly enjoyed. In addition to this, I spent two weeks working at Mustard TV in Norwich, where I assisted filming on location, editing short videos using Premiere Pro, researching and booking suitable guests for the show and assisting with audio, autocue and general timing in the studio.
This work experience has improved my ability to work under pressure, as I consistently had to meet deadlines and complete challenging tasks to a professional standard. I thoroughly enjoyed working as part of a tight-knit team, and the prospect of working for a TV Production Company excites, enthuses, and inspires me.
During my time at university, I have studied modules in publishing and journalism, where I have taken into consideration different target audiences and journalistic approaches for digital and print magazines. I also developed my own magazine, which I created using Adobe InDesign. My dissertation focuses on subcultures in British cinema, and whilst it has broadened my academic study, it has also harnessed my writing and time management skills. I am extremely sociable and ambitious, and alongside my studies, I participate in both the university badminton and football teams. Now that I’ve graduated, I am keen to pursue a career in the television industry, and the opportunity of experiencing work at a TV production company truly excites me.
After graduating, I interned firstly with Warp Films as an office runner where I helped research for various projects, organise TMO sheets and travel arrangements for the CEO, and respond promptly to clients through email and over the phone. During this internship I worked evening shifts at sports broadcaster Neulion. During this job I was responsible for monitoring live video and audio feeds for professional sporting events while conducting commercial substitutions and editing in-game highlights using their in-house software. As a junior editor substituting live commercial breaks with internal slates, it was imperative that no mistakes were made and that any issues were communicated to the production management team as soon as they happened. I’m currently a trainee at Shine TV until December the 1st and I have thoroughly enjoyed the variety of tasks that I have had to deal with. From logging scrips to cutting and editing skype interviews using premiere Pro, this internship has broadened and expanded my skillset, and made me confident to deal with any task put in front of me.
I am creative, hard-working, and conscientious and I have always received very positive feedback from bosses. I thrive most when working as part of a team, but I am versatile and can be efficient when working independently, too. I am currently based in Kingston, and now that I’ve graduated, I am extremely flexible with my time. I am keen to begin a career in the television, and would cherish the opportunity to gain experience with a production company, and the consideration of my application would be very much appreciated.
