About me
Due to Covid-19 I have had to be let go from my current employment white light Ltd where I was employed as a moving light technician. From a very young age I have always wanted to work in theatre and it was at the University of Cumbria where I trained specifically as a lighting technician\designer as well as learning all aspects of technical theatre. Whilst studying I worked simultaneously at Carlisle’s local theatre, The Sands Centre for my full three years at University in order to gain greater knowledge and experience to set me up for the future. For the past 2 and half years I have worked for Royal Caribbean International and have had the opportunity over the last year to step up as the technical supervisor whilst being the main Lighting technician in the main theatre. As Light Technician on board Royal Caribbean I have had the opportunity to work in many different venues from the Music Hall, to the Theatre and the onboard ice skating rink, Studio B, And the extremely technologically advanced 270 venue. This has meant that as well as lighting West End shows such as ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘Grease’ I have had the opportunity to design and light a varying array of professionals. These include magicians, singers, dance groups, bands and much more.
At RCI I work with Hog 4 consoles which are primarily use on board All (RCL) ships, but I have experience from university with ETC consoles and I am always eager to learn a new console as well. With shows ranging from West End Musicals to RCI original production shows as well varied headliner performers I have become a skilled and fast programmer. The performers only have a 1-2 hour rehearsal period. During this time all musicians and technicians must have the show perfect and ready to perform. I have become used to working extremely quickly and in a festival theatre style environment of constantly working different shows never working the same shows week in week out but I am completely adept at running full length musicals as well.
Also in my time on board I have become rather adept in maintenance and troubleshooting, as in the middle of the ocean we cannot rely on external help. We have to be able to at the very least identify the problems and work on fixing those problems so shows can run smoothly again. In my time I have had many major problems with full video wall errors and minor ones with broken fuses so my knowledge and skills have been tested in full over the last two and half years.
In my two years as Light technician I have also mentored three people who wanted to be light technician with the company two all who are all currently hold the position of light tech also. Since becoming Technical supervisor for my fellow technicians I have helped my co-workers to learn and grow and become more empathetic towards others and how the learn and work especially with working with people for all backgrounds and beliefs from all over the world. And know feel very comfortable leading a team of people as before I was content with being a team member now I want to take my career further and move up the ladder.
I feel that the variety of productions I have had the opportunity to work on over the last few years will set me up well within your team.
I hope you consider my application and hope to hear from you in due course.
Yours Faithfully,
Connor O’Neill.
