About me
Derek Hockenbrough was born in Dallas, Texas. He attended Pepperdine University in Malibu where he graduated with a BA in Theatre, Film, and Television. Derek studied Screenwriting under acclaimed Writer/Directors Tom Shadyac and Randall Wallace, and Directing under Ex-President of NBC Don Ohlmeyer. At Pepperdine, he was awarded Director of the Year in 2009 for his Direction of the local-access Live-Television comedy, "The Randumb Show".In 2011, Derek produced "Timeless", a short film that was an Official Selection at Cannes International Film Festival Short Film Corner and won the Audience Awards for the Louisville Film Festival and Milan International Film Festival.
He wrote and directed his first feature film, "Hemingway" in 2012 starring Alan Thicke. The film was distributed internationally by Allegro Corporation and Vision films in the US.
His second-helmed feature, "The Impaler", was awarded Best Director at the Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences accredited Sunscreen Film Festival West. The film was also an Official Selection at the Bram Stoker International Film Festival in England and the Dracula Film Festival in Romania. “The Impaler” enjoyed a successful limited-theatrical run in Los Angeles, the UK, Romania, Japan and the Philippines. The film is currently available on VOD outlets through Phase 4 Films in the US and Acort International.
Between removed , Derek worked on over sixteen Feature Films in various positions including Producer roles and numerous productions in the Camera Department. He has written three fully distributed feature films, as well as numerous others where he played the role of Script Doctor or Ghost Writer.
