About me
Giovanni is a young filmmaker from Italy.His main interest is directing, but he has several experiences in Light (as Director of Photography), Camera Department (as Operator, 1st and 2nd Camera assistant) and Editing.
During his career he learnt how to work on both Film and Digital, exploring several genres (comedy, thriller, drama, horror, documentary) as a Director and DOP. His lighting skills also include working with a green screen.
As a Camera Operator or Assistant, he has experience with an impressive number of professional cameras, including Arri 416, Arri 709, Red Epic, Arri Alexa, Arri Amira, Sony F55, Black Magic.
Giovanni moves his first steps in the industry in Italy as 1st assistant Director in the documentaries Claudio Capotondi: Scultore and Franco Mulas: Pittore, both directed by Guido Maria Compagnoni.
He then moves to theatre, where he is First and Second Assistant director for the plays Die Panne and The 12th Night, directed by Armando Pugliese.
He has his first experience in a cinema in 2011, when he is the 2nd Assistant Director for Francesco Maselli’s episode Sciacalli in the film Scossa, screened at the Venice Film Festival.
In 2012 he takes his degree in Film Studies at university La Sapienza in Rome. He then starts working in dubbing at the Italian dubbing company CI.TI.EMME Cinetel.
In 2014 he moves to London where he’s admitted to London Film Academy for his postgraduate studies.
During this experience, he develops his skills in Directing, Lighting and Camera.
As a director, he shoots the short films Thief Team and A Bad Man, together with a Office Shoes Commercial for the Kodak Commercial Competition and a few music videos.
During his experience at London Film Academy he develops some important skills as a Director of Photography. His work is really appreciated and leads him to take part, amongst the others, in the short films Knock Knock, directed by Alastair Train, and Selfie!, directed by Nikola Petrovic and written by Giovanni himself.
In Selfie! he also works as a Camera Operator. Other works in the same role include the short film Oy Vey! and the music video Feels Like Jimi. He has many other experiences in camera as a 1st or 2nd Camera Assistant.
Finally, Giovanni develops his talent in editing, learning to use professionally editing softwares like Final Cut Pro 7, Avid Media Composer 7 and 8 and Final Cut Pro X.
Giovanni is a hard worker, really appreciated by his colleagues. He’s talented and always focused on set, has a professional attitude but also good people skills.
