About me
Heath Cozens is an award-winning filmmaker who shoots, directs, and edits.Originally from New Zealand, he studied film at Victoria University, and worked in the local production industry before moved to Japan in 1996. Attaining fluency in the language, he produced a weekly bilingual current affairs radio show, produced shoots and commercials, shot and directed feature documentaries and edited in-house broadcast news.
As a shooter-director, he's produced branded content for global brands such as Canon, Levis, Nike, and Google.
Since 2013, Heath has worked out of NYC, and maintains strong relationships with Japan.
His work has been featured in the Economist, VICE, the BBC, the WSJ, AFP, AP, the Washington Post, the Guardian, Bloomberg, and Al Jazeera and numerous other major media outlets.

Additional information:
From his early filmic forays into dreams and animal consciousness, and through his later documentaries, which focus on individuals who confound social expectations, Heath’s films navigate the gaps between perception, preconceptions and objective reality.
His award-winning 2015 film Doglegs, for example, primes audience expectations with an emotive premise —disabled pro wrestling— but deploys a non-didactic storytelling style that ambushes viewer preconceptions. As Counterpunch's reviewer puts it, ”Doglegs isn’t going to change your mind, but alter the perceptions behind certain belief systems at the molecular level.”
Heath is currently developing several projects -- documentary and fiction.
