Additional information:
Jae Hyeong Ko grew up in South Korea, raised in a small town sandwiched between the Mu-hak Mountain and the Pacific Ocean. His parents, both artists in their own right, nurtured his creativity, encouraging him to make up stories about the odd-looking fish, insects, and animals he encountered on his daily walks along nature trails, and by the rippling creeks near their home. He would come home and regale his parents over dinner about the journeys these creatures experienced, and the obstacles they faced. But as he grew older, he yearned to have his own adventures. Not able to do that, they took Ko instead to see “Toy Story.” His life changed from then on.
Film opened Ko’s eyes to other worlds, other people. Ko had no chance of meeting in his small hamlet nestled between mountains and a vast ocean. So when he had the chance, he left, traveling to the U.S. to study at Academy of Art University, in San Francisco, where he has been creating his own stories ever since. He has directed five shorts films that won eleven different film festival awards in the U.S., Europe, and Asia, all while pursuing his undergraduate work.
Now, a recent graduate, Ko is ready to expand his horizons, and looks forward to working with other talented, creative collaborators to help spread his message of hope.
